Michelin’s experience in industrial production and the use of the “PMPM” (Powder, Machine, Part, Method) quality planning process, in which all parameters are fully controlled, guarantee that the parts produced are high-quality and ensure repeatability under the qualification conditions required for all types of certification.

  • Powder : Referential and control of the conditions in which the powder is prepared and used for continuous industrial production with guaranteed traceability of the material flow (incoming/outgoing) at all stages of the production. Machine designed to limit inter-batch contamination and for quick changes between powders.
  • Machine : Expertise and control of the melting pool : all of the machine parameters are controlled using Michelin’s industrial referentials and experience. Elements controlled: geometric references for machine installation, machine parameter monitoring (lasing, layering, inerting, etc.), with alerts in the event of deviations and a preventive maintenance plan.
  • Part : Understanding and control of the relationships between the parameters and the mechanical/dimensional characteristics of the parts to be produced.
  • Method : Approval of the sequence of phases in the production process (quality process). AddUp fully masters the certification sequence (HQRI), and can help customers identify any risks and stabilize their process.

Unrivaled powder tolerance

  • All powder sizes can be used (up to 10 to 15 µm), with specifications which are significantly less restrictive than most, particularly for morphology and sphericity, in order to ensure that operating costs stay under control.

An analysis of the industrial and medical risks generated by the composition of certain alloys (Ni and Co) and the powder granulometry used (< 100-150 microns), as well as our mass production experience, highlighted the need to deploy solutions which integrate HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) issues from the earliest stages.
